Perge, Aspendos, Side & Waterfall

Perge Perge is one of the long-established cities of the ancient Pamphylia region. It is located 18 km east of Antalya and 2 km north of Aksu. The archaeological site of Perge has been systematically excavated by Istanbul University since 1946. Perge is especially important for understanding city planning during the late Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods. Its colonnaded streets, water channels, monumental fountains, baths, city walls, towers and gates reflect the impressive urban design of the ancient city. Aspendos The famous theatre of Aspendos was built in the 2nd century AD during the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, based on a project by Zeno, a Greek architect born in Aspendos. The theatre is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient theatre architecture in the region and combines both Greek and Roman architectural features. Side Side is located on a peninsula near Manavgat. The name “Side” means pomegranate in an ancient Anatolian language. The city was an important Hellenistic and Roman settlement protected by land and sea walls. Today, visitors can see city gates, walls, aqueducts, baths, temples, fountains, cisterns, a harbour, an agora and a large ancient theatre.
